Did you know that you can sign up online to get your free litter picking kit?
If you have your own litter-picker, you can tidy up your street, or a wider area, whenever you feel like it. Don’t worry about what to do with the rubbish you collect; you can email One Trafford to get your bags picked up.
Just fill in an online form to get a kit from Trafford Council. On the form you promise to “Be Responsible” – to keep the area around your house tidy, and recycle as much of your waste as you can. In return they provide a litter-picker and green plastic bags.
How to sign up
Fill in the online form on the Trafford Council website, or search for “Be Responsible” and follow the ‘I live in Trafford’ link.
How to get your bags collected
Email One Trafford at OneTraffordLitterBagCollection@amey.co.uk. Tell them exactly where you left the bags, for example “by the street litter bin outside the Royal Mail Sorting Office on Norton Street, Old Trafford.” Say how many bags you left – they keep a count. Make sure they’re easily seen from the road and not blocking the pavement.
Top Tips
● Remember to tie up the bags. They get collected quickly if you leave them next to a street litter-bin. If they’re too heavy to carry to a street bin, you can leave them somewhere else, but not with a fly-tip (dumped rubbish). If they’re not by a street bin, ask One Trafford for a job number when you email, so you can chase up the job if they miss the bags.
● Please keep your bags away from any fly-tipping, because a different One Trafford team clears that.
• Please do report fly-tipping if you see it. One Trafford won’t know it’s there if no one reports it!

If you set up an account (you don’t have to) it saves a bit of time when you fill in the form, and it means that you can track the jobs you report.
